To qualify for a Double Badger there are some important things you need to know. For want of a better word, these are the Double Badger Rules:
- You must do one of the rides on the weekend of the event. We don’t mind if it’s the NI800 or the NI1600.
- You need to do the other ride (we call it a virtual ride) within 12 months of the ride weekend or before next year’s NZDR Event weekend, whichever is sooner.
- Depending on where you live you may have to return to Ohakune to start that virtual ride.
- You need to complete the virtual ride in the way that it was designed.
- Your first checkpoint can be something other than the START at Ohakune. It could be a checkpoint closer to your home. If you start elsewhere, then you need to add Ride HQ as an additional checkpoint.
- Once you have decided on your first checkpoint you must complete subsequent checkpoints in the order of the virtual ride. For example, if there are 10 checkpoints and you start at CP3 then your order is 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, RIDE-HQ, 1, 2, 3.
- You must travel in the direction of the designed ride, e.g if the ride is clockwise you MUST ride in a clockwise direction.
- You must complete and capture ALL checkpoints of the virtual ride.
- We don’t make allowances for the distance you need to ride to get on route. For example, if you are doing the NI800 as a virtual ride and you need to travel 200km to get on route your total mileage from home to home will be 1,200km. Planning is important!
- You need to prove that you have completed the virtual ride. Read that page carefully. It’ll tell you what you must do to have the ride verified and approved.
- There are no refunds for the Double Badger entry costs as we will have already commissioned your badge and/or patch.
If you have any questions please ask us before you put in your entry for the Double Badger. We want you to be successful. You can reach us by email at distanceriders@gmail.com.
